Prónay castle as the venue of exclusive events

We are happy that you found us. Alsópetény is located in a hidden corner of Nógrád County at the foot of the Cserhát Mountain at a 50 km distance from Budapest. This region is unknown for many, however if you get to smell the local scents or hear the birds’ chirping, it is for granted that you will be longing to come back. The objective of purchasing the historic building complex and renovating it by considering heritage criteria to the maximum was on one hand the protection of values and on the other hand the operation of an event venue on the real estate.

Prónay Castle was purchased by its current owner in 2009. The renovation works started in 2010 during which Dr. Laszlovszky József, Professor of Archaeology, as an expert of historic buildings, provided us constant support. It was an essential requirement to maintain and bring back the atmosphere of historical times and to harmonise the buildings with the old ones during the inclusion in the building complex. After one and a half years of work the renovations were completed in June 2011 (the event hall was handed over in a subsequent stage, during the summer of 2014).

Following the renovation, we received a Podmaniczky Prize for the conservation of architectural heritage.

We knew that we would introduce the castle as an event venue, however, we were not planning the continuous operation of a hotel. Our purpose was to create a venue for events where the guests by exclusive availability could retreat easily, surrounded with their family or co-workers.

It is essential for us to inspire our guests to familiarise themselves with the county of Nógrád, therefore we have collected all the sights and programs of the area which we are happy to recommend for those who arrive at us.

As for the breakfast we strive to include our own and local craft food products. We make our marmalades and lavender syrups of the lavenders planted in the garden of our Levendula Guesthouse located in the village. In the old days Alsópetény was also a wine region but after the destruction of the phylloxera, grapes were not replanted, so the wine recommended for you is not from Nógrád but it is also a self-produced delicacy, bottled as a result of the work of the castle owner’s daughter Molnár Júlia Dóra. Do taste the award winning wines from the Csendes Dűlő Vineyards of Badacsony!
